Christian
Education
at First Presbyterian Church
Our
Promises
When
children are baptized at First Presbyterian Church the
members of our congregation make these promises:
1. Acting as individuals and in behalf of the whole Body of
Christ,
we assume responsibility with the parents for the spiritual
nurture of the child.
2. We commit to set a godly example before the child and to
provide, as far as possible, all that is necessary to the
end that this child may one day confess Jesus Christ as
Savior and Lord.
Meeting
a variety of needs and interests
These
responsibilities are the foundation for all of our
Christian education decisions and programs. Whether you
prefer singing a lullaby in the nursery, playing with the
wooden story pieces in Young Children and Worship, praying
the Psalms in a small group study, worshiping on Sunday
mornings, engaging in a comprehensive Bible study on
prayer, or having fun at Vacation Bible School, our
programs offer a wide range of opportunities for everyone
to come to know Christ and continue to grow in him.
Our Sunday school program begins in September and runs
through the first week of June. Classes are offered for all
ages. The
Sunday School Calendar
and
Children and Youth
Classes
links offer a more comprehensive description of our
curriculum. Our adult classes meet for in-depth study of
various books of the Bible and discussion of
Christian-related topics. Offerings for 2007-08 are
provided in our
Adult Classes
link.
Our Junior and Senior High School Youth ministries seek to
address the many issues and concerns that young Christians
face today as they seek to live out their faith. It
concentrates upon the importance of building relationships
with each other and with Christ and provides a safe
environment for students to grow through leadership skills
and taking risks in their faith. More information is
provided in the
Youth Group
link.
The foundation for all these programs is Christ—our Savior
and our Lord. The mortar that holds us together is the
shared commitment from our congregation to provide an
opportunity to experience the transforming power of Jesus
Christ through service, community, and worship. Please call
the church office or send inquiries to
christianed@fpcnewport.com.
Our Christian Education ministry includes more than
classes. Opportunities for fellowship and growth, an
extensive library collection, and special events and
activities round invite all ages to celebrate our Lord as a
church family.
